Mysterious photos (September 17, 2009)

Many sightings of alleged ghost sightings are actually due to lack of understanding of the workings of a camera, or even knowledge of the area or subject being photographed.
Take for example the photo above.
This photo was take specifically for a demonstration. Notice the strange green mist on the left side (by the light switch), it seems to be moving into the doorway and down the dark hall. When you photograph in the dark with a digital SLR camera you are able to do it one of three ways.
1. Set the camera to a high ISO setting, this causes the camera to be more sensitive to light and generally makes for very grainy photographs. This usually happens when you you set your camera to night shot or whatever you particular model calls night mode.
2. Set a lower shutter speed. This enables the camera to leave the shutter open for a longer amount of time to allow all the light in, but it won't be anymore sensitive to light so as a result only stationary pictures will appear in the picture.
3.Use a flash.- this can cause orbs in the evetual photo. But does allow the whole scene to be taken with optimal settings otherwise.
Back to the photograph.
This was taken with a shutter speed of twenty seconds in a dark room. As a result all the stationary objects such as walls, the door, the birdcage etc are all perfectly in focus. The green mist was actually one of the R.I.P team members walking through shot in a green t-shirt. It was timed so a member would be in the shot long enough to show up, but not long enough so the member would appear in the photo.
As light was reflecting off the team member for about ten of the twenty seconds you can see where the member stood, but because the member wasn't there when the camera actually took the picture (at the end of the twenty seconds) the member didn't show up.
