Different types of hauntings

There is not just one "standard" type of haunting. There are different types of hauntings that people may not be aware of. Here are the main types that you may have experienced. Most hauntings are harmless but they can be very frightening.

Residual
This is the most common type of haunting, also known as the 'stone tape theory', that may be experienced. What happens is a reenactment from the past of a ghost or spirit, a bit like a tape been replayed, over and over again. The entity is not aware that they can be seen by the living. Usually the reenactment happens at the same time every day, every year or every month depending on what type of reenactment is happening e.g. anniversary.

Intelligent
These type of hauntings can be very frightening as these type of hauntings are aware that the living are around them and because of this will often try and make their presence known, by trying to move things around or making noises. These ghosts/spirits are often attached to the location they are in for emotional reasons or unfinished business or not even realizing that they have passed away. On rare occasions spirit/ghosts have been known to follow a person around from home to home.

Poltergeists

This type of haunting is possibly the most frightening of all and most unpredictable. These hauntings can easily move very heavy objects and throw them to the other side of the room. These entities have also been know to call out to the people around them. These types of hauntings are most common around children going through pubity or someone who is going through a stressful time. These poltergeists can be present for years and can be very difficult to remove.

Demons
This type of haunting is very rare and not human. The typical characteristics of a demon haunting is a foul, strong scent, very similar to sulphur. Demons are said to warm the area around them unlike the cold feeling you would feel with normal haunting. People report seeing demons as a black mass, even though they can turn themselves into any form. Demons are also known to possess a person, attack and harm, which is all intentional. These entities have lived for thousands of years and cannot be destroyed, the only option is to get them to leave and move to another space. Professional help will definately be needed for this type of haunting to be removed by either a paranormal team or a member of the clergy.

Portal
Not very much is known about Portal hauntings. Portals are thought to be gateways or doorways to the parallel universe for ghosts, spirits and entities to travel through. Portals are not limited to just one location and can be found almost anywhere, particularly on sacred ground or ley lines.
